Is the LLMwithCrypto API working?

There is no status number to trust here; there is a check you can run yourself in one second. This page shows it, explains which errors are ours and which are yours, and how an app should react to each.

Quick answer

How do I check that LLMwithCrypto is working?

Call GET https://llmwithcrypto.com/api/v1/credits with your key. It generates no tokens, so it costs nothing, and a normal JSON reply proves the LLMwithCrypto API, your key and your account work. Then send one short chat completion to the model you use, which costs a fraction of a cent on most models at our prices of 23 October 2026. Server errors are never charged, and incidents are dated in the changelog.

What is the quickest health check?

Two calls, in this order:

  1. GET https://llmwithcrypto.com/api/v1/credits — answers from our side only: authentication, the API and your account. A reply with your remaining credit means the service is up for you.
  2. GET https://llmwithcrypto.com/api/v1/models — lists the models your key can call. If the model you use is missing, pick another one from the models page while support looks into it.

If either returns 401, the key is wrong or revoked: create a new one in the dashboard.

curl: credit left and the list of models (no tokens used)
curl -s https://llmwithcrypto.com/api/v1/credits \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LLMWITHCRYPTO_API_KEY"

curl -s https://llmwithcrypto.com/api/v1/models \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LLMWITHCRYPTO_API_KEY"
Python: a one-token check of the model you rely on
import os
import sys

from openai import OpenAI

client = OpenAI(base_url="https://llmwithcrypto.com/api/v1", api_key=os.environ["LLMWITHCRYPTO_API_KEY"])
try:
    client.chat.completions.create(
        model="gpt-oss-20b",
        messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "ping"}],
        max_tokens=1,
    )
except Exception as exc:
    print("model check failed:", exc)
    sys.exit(1)
print("model answers")

How do I tell our error from my request's?

By the status code family, as with OpenAI's API:

  • 4xx — something in the request or the account: a bad key, credit run out, an unknown model id, a parameter the model does not accept, or too many requests per minute. Fix the request; retrying the same one will fail again, except for rate limits.
  • 5xx — our side or the model server. You pay per token from your balance: input and output tokens are counted by the model’s own tokenizer and charged at that model’s price per 1M tokens. A call that ends in an error costs nothing.

The errors page lists every code with its meaning.

What should my app do when a call fails?

  • Rate limit: wait and retry with an increasing delay. Every account has a per-minute request and token limit, shown in the dashboard; ask support and it can be raised.
  • Server error or timeout: retry once or twice with backoff; if the same model keeps failing, switch to another model with a similar profile, since one key calls all of them.
  • Credit run out: top up and buy a pack; calls resume once the credit is on the account.
  • Authentication error: check the key in your environment variable before anything else.

Where are incidents recorded?

In the changelog, with the date, the models affected and what was done. Prices, model additions and removals go there too. For an incident affecting your account only, write to [email protected] with the time in UTC and the request id if you have it.

Status questions

Is checking my credit free?

Yes. It runs no model and uses no tokens.

Am I charged for a failed call?

Not when the failure is ours. You pay per token from your balance: input and output tokens are counted by the model’s own tokenizer and charged at that model’s price per 1M tokens. A call that ends in an error costs nothing.

Do you publish an uptime percentage?

No. We do not publish figures we cannot show you; incidents are dated in the changelog instead.
