Quick answer
Can I pay for AI tools without a credit card?
Often, yes. On pages read on 22 October 2026, ChatGPT takes local methods such as UPI, Pix, GoPay, GCash and MoMo, and US gift cards; ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity can be billed through the App Store or Google Play, so store gift cards work. Few tools take crypto directly. For an API, LLMwithCrypto sells open-weight models for BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, with no card and no KYC.
Which routes does each tool accept?
Official routes only, from each vendor's billing pages. “App store” means the subscription can be bought in the iOS or Android app, so an Apple or Google Play gift card balance pays for it.
| Tool | Without a card | App store billing | Official crypto |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Regional methods (UPI, GoPay, Pix, Kakao Pay, Naver Pay, GCash, MoMo), Link bank debit in the UK and EEA, US gift cards | Yes | No |
| Claude | None on the web: credit or debit card only | Yes | No |
| Google AI Pro (Gemini) | PayPal; Google Play balance in selected countries | Yes (Google Play) | No |
| Perplexity Pro | Cash App, Google Pay, Apple Pay, ACH | Yes | No |
| GitHub Copilot | PayPal | No | No |
| Midjourney | Apple Pay, Amazon Pay, Alipay, Google Pay, Link in some regions | No | No |
| Suno | Cash App Pay, UPI, KakaoPay, NaverPay and others | Yes | Yes: “Stablecoin”, in some regions |
| OpenAI API | None: standard credit or debit cards only | No | No |
| Anthropic API | None for new accounts: prepaid credit by card | No | No |
| Gemini API | Bank debit, PayPal (Spain, Italy, Mexico), Boleto/Pix, UPI | No | No |

Why is my card declined for ChatGPT or Claude?
Three causes come back again and again in the vendors' help pages:
- The country. OpenAI says a card “must be issued by a bank located in one of those supported regions”. Anthropic asks that the billing address match the country you are in.
- The card type. OpenAI's API refuses prepaid cards; GitHub does not accept them either; Google Play lists virtual credit cards as unsupported.
- Your bank's own limits. India's e-mandate rules add a check on recurring payments above ₹15,000; Nigerian banks have capped foreign spending on naira cards; Argentina adds a 30% charge on software subscriptions paid in pesos.
If you live in a country the tool does not serve, no payment method fixes it: OpenAI warns that access from unlisted countries “may result in your account being blocked or suspended”.
How does the app-store route work?
Buy an Apple or Google Play gift card, add it to an account of the same country, and subscribe inside the tool's app. Apple says its balance pays for “apps, subscriptions, and more”; Google says Play balance can pay for subscriptions on Google Play.
Two limits apply. Gift cards are tied to a country: a US Apple card works only with a US account. And a subscription bought in the app stays in the app store: OpenAI says mobile subscriptions cannot be moved between ChatGPT accounts.
Which AI services take crypto directly?
Few of the big names. In our reading of 40 tools on 22 October 2026, only Suno lists a stablecoin option, in some regions. Among API resellers, OpenRouter takes USDC with a 5% fee and NanoGPT takes 29 coins; both resell closed models at list price.
LLMwithCrypto sells API access to open-weight models such as DeepSeek, Qwen and gpt-oss, paid in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC from a $25 top-up. We do not sell access to GPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok: their makers forbid reselling API access without their approval, and we do not have it.
What should I avoid?
- Shared or resold accounts. OpenAI's terms say: “You may not share your account credentials or make your account available to anyone else.” Shared seats get banned, and the person who owns the account can take it back.
- Someone paying “on your account”. It needs access to your login, and it does not solve the country problem.
- API keys far below list price. The guide on cheap API keys explains where they tend to come from.
- A VPN to reach an unsupported country. Providers treat it as a breach of their terms.
Paying for AI without a card: common questions
Can I pay for ChatGPT Plus with a gift card?
Yes in two ways, per OpenAI's help pages read on 22 October 2026: an official ChatGPT gift card (US only, $15 to $250, for web subscriptions), or an Apple or Google Play gift card used in the mobile app.
Can I buy Claude as a gift?
Not at the moment: Anthropic's help page says gift subscriptions are “currently unavailable to purchase”.
Can I use a virtual card?
Sometimes, but the OpenAI API refuses prepaid cards and Google Play lists virtual credit cards as unsupported. A virtual card also does not change the country rules.
Can I pay for an LLM API in crypto?
Yes. LLMwithCrypto sells per-token access to open-weight models for BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC. The API speaks the OpenAI chat completions format: point the OpenAI SDK, LangChain or any OpenAI-compatible tool at our base URL with your key, and change the model name.
